The total employment for Missouri is 2,927,600, which is 6,900 greater than last month, an increase of 0.24%. The total employment a year ago was 2,892,900, which is 34,700 lower than today. Employment has increased by 1.20% in the last year. Last months' employment total was revised from 2,920,700 to 2,914,800. This revision is a change of 0.20% from the preliminary numbers.

The Trade, Transport and Utilities sectors are the leading employers in Missouri. There are 545,400 employees in the sector. Last month the sector had 544,400 employees last month, an increase of 1,000 (0.18%). Last year the sector had 545,100 employees last year, an increase of 300 (0.06%).

In the month of July, 2019 the average hours worked was 41.4, this was a decrease from last month, which averaged 41.6 hours. This represents a change of 0.5%. Average hourly wages for the month were $21.98 per hour, which translates to $909.97 per week. Hourly wages decreased over the last month from $22.10 per hour a decrease of 0.5%. Weekly wages decreased over the last month from $919.36 per week a decrease of 1.0%.

A year ago, the average hours worked was 42.1 hourse per week, which is a decrease of 1.7%. Hourly wages have increased over the last year from $21.87 per hour, an increase of 0.5%. Weekly wages have increased over the last year from $920.73 per week, an increase of 1.2%.

Unemployment Rate

The unemployment rate decreased in July, 2019 from 3.3% to this months' 3.3%. A year ago the unemployment rate was 3.0%, 0.3% higher today. The total workforce in July, 2019 was 3,062,057, which is 0.3% higher than last months 3,052,750 and is 0.3% higher than last years 3,046,201. The total number of unemployed in Missouri is 100,321 as compared to the revised figure from last month of 101,086 and 92,093 unemployed a year ago.
